Jean-Claude Brizard was announced Monday as the new head of Chicago Public Schools.

The superintendent of the Rochester City School District was introduced by Chicago mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel. Brizard will become Chicago Public Schools CEO.

"One perspective that I will always push is all educators, regardless of their level in the system, must always remain focused on the most important relationship in our work; that of a teacher and students. We must put students first," said Brizard.

Emanuel referred to Brizard as "JC," which he will apparently go by in Chicago instead of Jean-Claude.

A statement from the district said Brizard informed school board president Malik Evans by letter, which said that the decision was “difficult.”

According to the district, Brizard said in the letter that he took great pride in the accomplishments of the Rochester City School District during his tenure.

Brizard is expected to resign from the RCSD by the end of the school year. Brizard has scheduled a press conference in Rochester for Wednesday.

Brizard was hired as the superintendent of the Rochester City School District in November of 2007.
