A crew from a passing boat helped rescue three people from a sinking boat on Irondequoit Bay Tuesday morning.

It happened around 11:00 a.m.

The boating crew from Towboat U.S. was finishing a job at the other end of the bay when they noticed three men in the water.

Their 19-foot boat began to sink and decided to jump in the bay.

The Towboat U.S. crew called the U.S. Coast Guard and rescued the men from the water.

Two of the men were not swimmers.

"They were pretty scared but they had just donned the life vests so it was under control, they said they were ok," said Towboat U.S. Captain Jake Van Reenen.

The boaters said they were fishing when the vessel started taking on water.

No word on what caused the boat to sink.
