Mia was born with a cleft palate. The Rogers have spent $30,000 to have her undergo seven surgeries to try and correct the problem. The surgeries worked only temporarily and Mia still cannot eat and drink normally.

They say through it all, she never lost her will to live and is a playful, happy puppy.

Sue Rogers thought it was almost over after Mia’s last illness.

“I brought her back to Rochester emergency. I wanted to give her one more night,” said Sue Rogers. “If she got worse we would’ve euthanized her because I don’t want her to suffer. Two days later, she was playing. She’s just beaten every odd.”

"The dog has picked to live,” said Gary Rogers. “If the dog doesn't give up, why should we?"

The Rogers worry without help, Mia will eventually die from complications of pneumonia.

"I'm hoping somebody out there, maybe even a human plastic surgeon coming together with a veterinarian, can come up with a plan to fix this puppy's mouth,” said Sue. “It doesn't make any sense to me that we can figure out how to put a man on the moon, but we can't figure out how to close a tiny hole on the roof of a dog's mouth."
