A Fairport man faces vehicular manslaughter charges following a fatal motorcycle/car crash in Perinton Friday night.
The crash happened on Route 31 at South Cross Trail just before 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Sheriff's deputies said 38-year-old Ivan Furdey of Irondequoit was driving his motorcycle west at an apparent high rate of speed.
Frank Kuilman, 51, of Fairport turned onto Route 31 from South Cross Trail into the path of the motorcycle.
Furdey was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Furdey has two children. His family says he moved to the U.S. almost 22 years ago.
Kuilman was charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and driving without a license.
Eric Carlston is president of the bikers education group, ABATE. He says while the accident is tragic it's a chance to educate drivers about the precautions they should take while motorcycles are out on the road.
"We want to express our sympathy and condolences to that man's family for their loss. It's another example of how distracted or impaired driving is so dangerous," said Carlston.
He was remanded to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail. He is due back in court Thursday.
