Man Pleads Guilty to Helping Fugitives
A Wayne county man has pleaded guilty to helping two men who escaped from the Monroe County Jail in march hide from authorities.

Mathias Smith, 35, pleaded guilty to concealing an escaped prisoner. The charge carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both.

Federal prosecutors say Joseph Mitchell and Eddie Palmer were apprehended on April 8th in camping trailer located on a property associated with Smith.

Palmer and Mitchell escaped by sawing through the jail's bars and fleeing the city of Rochester.

Smith admitted that he provided shelter to Mitchell and also supplied him with food during his period of escape.
