Rochester firefighters battled heavy flames and smoke at a vacant house in the city Saturday afternoon. Emergency crews were called to a home on Thorn Street around 2:30 p.m.

Firefighters say initial reports came over as people trapped inside, but crews were quickly able to determine that no one was inside of the home at the time of fire. Flames extended from the rear of the house and up through the walls of the second floor.

Firefighters say a neighboring apartment complex suffered minor damage from the fire's intense heat. The fire chief says the fire looks a lot worse than it really was.

"A lot of smoke. Coming from headquarters, we had a big header in the sky. Companies go in there. Real tough fire, real aggressive attack and knocked the fire down fairly quickly," said Darryl Winter, battalion chief.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
