As toys go, LEGO is a classic. In Victor, they're part of the classroom.

Melissa Gertner helped start the Victor First LEGO League team three years ago. This school year, 80 kids, grades four to six, take part; building and programming robots, solving problems, learning to work together.

“There's kids who are really interested in this. It really helps them grow and work together as a team. It teaches them life skills,” said Gertner.

First LEGO League teams compete against other schools. Right now, thanks to Melissa, they're also competing for $10,000 dollars in cash through Time Warner Cable's Super Connector Search.

They've already won $5,000, which will keep the team afloat for another year or two, but the school district's three year pilot financial commitment to the First Lego League team runs out this year.
