A Wayne County woman is giving thanks this holiday to the strangers who helped her look for her missing dog. She's also giving thanks to something more powerful, that she says, brought her dog home.

Melanie Enderlin breeds Shetland sheepdogs in Ontario, Wayne County. Three-year-old Sky was too big for breeding so Enderlin found a new home for him in East Rochester. The dog ran away soon after getting there in mid-November.

Enderlin starting searching for Sky, calling the dog warden, Lollypop Farm, and by putting pictures up on Craigslist. People soon began spotting the dog around town. They could see he belonged to someone, still wearing his collar and part of his leash. No one could ever get close enough to catch him.

Enderlin says she followed every lead and was always afraid Sky could be hit by a car. Then one day in December, Sky just came back home, showing up at the side gate.

"Eighteen-mile trip if you go direct from East Rochester to Ontario," said Enderlin. "And Sky made it in three weeks and four days."

"He's our Christmas miracle."

Enderlin wanted to thank everyone who helped looked for Sky so she invited them over this weekend to meet the dog.

Enderlin believes the dog's long walks with their horses through the woods and the Sky's daily walks to the lake helped direct him home.

Sky is now home in Ontario... to stay.
