Weather Affects Air Travel
The first major snowfall of the season affected air travel. Many flights in and out of the Greater Rochester International Airport were either delayed or cancelled, but much of that was caused by weather conditions elsewhere.

It was tough going just making it to the airport, and once air travelers got there, there was no guarantee their flight would leave on time, if at all.
Delays and cancellations of flights coming in and going out of the airport began around 10 a.m. Friday, and increased as the day progressed.
"Fortunately, this morning we got most of our aircraft off and on to their departures safely, but as weather started to build in other parts of the country and other cities, it's definitely having an effect on Rochester,” said Andy Moore, assistant airport director.
Many of those delays and cancellations are affecting travel plans for families heading to warmer climates for vacation.
The Winburn family from Lyons, Wayne County, was travelling to Orlando then on to a week-long cruise. Because of the mild weather leading up to Friday's snow, they were expecting smooth sailing.
"Of all days, it's Friday the 13th. What else can you expect, right?” asked Lori Winburn.
“You know what, the Winburn family, we can get through anything. This makes our trip that much nicer,” she continued.
The Winburns said the drive from Lyons to the airport was quite brutal; 30 miles an hour or slower the entire way, but this family says it's used to conditions like this.
"It seems like every year when we go on vacation the ride to the airport is just like this,” said Jason Winburn.
Taylor Cook of Fairport, a sophomore at Nazareth College, was on her way Valencia, Spain to study abroad. Classes there begin on Tuesday.
"I'm glad I'm getting out. I don't want to stay around for it if it's going to be like this,” she said.
With snow showers expected to continue through the weekend, airport officials recommend checking with your airline before heading to the airport.
