A new use for an old building. After being vacant nearly six years, a former Chase Pitkin could become part of a local school.
Stepping Stones Learning Center in Irondequoit is expanding and hopes to move into the old Chase Pitkin on Hudson Avenue, which closed six years ago.
Stepping Stones provides learning opportunities for autistic students and ones with special needs.
Monday night, the Irondequoit Planning Board will discuss the plans.
"It's been sitting empty for quite a long time, so I think it will be good. It will give us better exposure being out on Hudson Avenue, and we're looking forward to being in a new facility," said Mariellen Cupini, CEO and founder of Stepping Stones.
Cupini says if everything goes as planned, they'll be move in ready by the 2013/2014 school year.
