County to Pay $590K to Settle Suits
Members of the Monroe County Legislature's Ways and Means Committee have agreed to pay nearly $600,000 to settle two separate lawsuits involving Sheriff's deputies.

The first settlement of $500,000 pertains to a 2004 case in which a Sheriff's deputy rear-ended another motorist on his way to a call.

The second settlement of $90,000 dollars will go towards a 2005 case in which the complainant alleged a deputy used excessive force.

The county's spokesman says the money will be paid out of the county's risk management fund.

Approval by the full legislature is expected when it meets on February 14th.
