President Obama touched on education as one of the key points of his State of the Union Address earlier this week.
Obama said it is imperative that colleges and universities stop tuition from increasing on a constant basis or else taxpayer funding will decrease. He said that education cannot be a luxury and every family in America should be able to afford it.
YNN spoke with the president of the University of Rochester and asked his thoughts on Obama's comments. Joel Seligman says the college is committed to running the most effective university consistent with its academic mission that it can.
"We're very proud at the University of Rochester that we've had considerable discipline in our budget process and tuition setting process. Tuition for example, in the College of Arts, Science, and Engineering, is approximately one half where it was a few years ago," said Joel Seligman, University of Rochester President.
The University of Rochester is one of the country's leading private research universities.
