Deputies Identify Teen Killed in Early Morning Crash
Monroe County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a fatal one car crash in Penfield. The crash happened just before 2 a.m. on Jackson Road near State Road.

Deputies say 19-year-old David Groff was heading northbound on Jackson Road when he lost control of his vehicle, hit a utility pole, and then crashed into a tree. Groff was ejected from the car. Deputies say the car and the tree caught fire.

Groff was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say the impact split the utility pole in half but no one lost power.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The Midlakes community was saddened to learn of the death of David Groff, a 2010 graduate of Midlakes High School. David was a kind spirited individual who shared his talents in our theatre program and our percussion ensemble. He also competed on our track team. Our thoughts are with his mother, father, brother and sister.
