The University of Rochester's president is sounding off about the possibility of Rochester's largest employer having state representation based out of Buffalo.
President Joel Seligman told us Wednesday said the possibility of that happening is "bizarre."
"The purpose of representation is to have a local spokesman for your interest to have someone who's loyal to your district, and while I understand there's a tough process, the state has in trying to develop appropriate mechanisms for figuring out how to divide up the state for the Senate. I'm hopeful there will be a second look at this and I'm hopeful we'll get back to a more classical democratic form of representation," said Seligman.
Local Assembly districts don't change much under the proposal. Senate districts are another story. Monroe County would be represented in six different districts, including three in the city of Rochester.
That split outraged Democratic Assemblyman David Gantt, who tells YNN he is now seriously considering a lawsuit, saying the process discriminates against minority constituents.
