More than a thousand business leaders from throughout the area gathered at St. John Fisher Wednesday for the annual Eyes on the Future economic summit.
The event gives leaders the opportunity to discuss how innovation will transform the Greater Rochester economy. Bestselling author and Ideo general manager, Tom Kelly, was the featured speaker. Kelly and his company have created products that include the Apple mouse and Ford Hybrid digital dashboard.
Kelly says as leaders, sometimes you have to think outside of the box.
"The dangerous thing for all executives is, it's so comfortable at your desk. You have your coffee at arm's reach; everyone's respectful to you and stuff like that, but I know from lots of experience that you can learn if you step out of that comfort zone, if you go out into the world in kind of that messy unknown, and see what's really happening, because your customers are not all rational. They don't all use your product the way the brochure says they should," said Kelly.
Rochester Mayor Tom Richards and Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks also attended the event.
