Healthcare affordability was the main focus of a forum in downtown Rochester Thursday morning.
The event was headlined by Doctor Mark McClellan from the Brookings Institute in Washington. McClellan previously served as the head of the Medicare and Medicaid programs for the federal government.
The forum's main topics included rising healthcare costs, but also how to prevent diseases and encourage people to live healthier lives.
"Well Rochester and Monroe County have relatively low costs compared to the rest of the country and that's good news. The bad news is that healthcare costs are still going up. We still have real problems with affordability and we still have real problems with preventing illnesses in the first place," said Mark McClellan, MD, PhD.
McClellan says employers and healthcare providers are being encouraged to support healthier living.
