Volunteers from Delta Air Lines partnered up Wednesday with the Rochester YMCA to fill backpacks for this summer's Y campers.
This was all part of the Y's Family Night at Frontier Field. The volunteers stuffed about 200 backpacks with flashlights, blankets and first aid kits.
The backpacks will serve as welcome gifts for children attending Y summer camps who receive assistance from the Y.
"Well, you know the Y does not turn anyone away, so we want to make sure that every kid that goes to camp is prepared for the great experience they're going to have,” said George Romell, CEO, YMCA of Greater Rochester. “We don't want anyone to know who's from what household. What neighborhood. So it's really important and their support makes it possible."
In addition to the backpacks, Delta Air Lines presented a check for $20,000 to the YMCA of Greater Rochester’s Invest in Youth Campaign at the event.
