Crew Teams Row for Diabetes
Crew teams from McQuaid Jesuit in Rochester and Canisius High School in Buffalo are rowing for a good cause Thursday.
The two high school teams will be rowing the length of the Erie Canal, a total of 320 miles, for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
The idea came from a Canisius student who was looking for a summer challenge and looking to raise money and awareness about a disease that affects one of his friends.
13 students, seven from McQuaid and six from Canisius, will launch from the U.B. Boathouse on Tonawanda Creek Thursday and will end in Waterford, New York.
The teams will need to travel about 50 to 60 miles per day.
The teams have a combined goal of raising $50,000.
