Just a year ago this week, Marine Staff Sergeant Trevor Cook's life ended tragically when a helicopter he was in crashed at California’s Camp Pendleton.
News traveled quickly over the 2,500 miles to his home in Orleans County where his family still lived.
An avid golfer, Trevor Cook was given a special remembrance.
The Board of Directors for Medina's Shelridge Country Club, a place Trevor frequented, dedicated a garden to the Marine Saturday.
Many people were in attendance for the memorial golf tournament to support Trevor and his family.
Jonathan Colbertson, U.S. Marine Corp said, "He was a Marine flying in a helicopter. He knew what he was doing, he knew what he got himself into. And you know that he had no regrets. So...I was kind of just proud of him."
There are plans currently, to host an annual golf tournament to commemorate Trevor.
