Baseball’s Iron Man is returning to Rochester.
Hall of Famer and former Red Wing Cal Ripken Jr will be in Rochester on Tuesday, August 7th.
The Red Wings announced Ripken's return to Rochester to be inducted in to the International League Hall of Fame. Ripken played for the Red Wings in 1981 before going on to a 21-year career with the Baltimore Orioles.
Ripken holds the Major League record for most consecutive games played with 2,632.
“He'll be here in Rochester for pretty much the whole day. It's a wonderful opportunity for our community to honor one of our favorite heroes. He will be accessible to a lot of people in this area and we're really excited that we were able to bring him here for this community. The idea is to help both Hillside and Unity raise some much needed funds to benefit their own programs, but more importantly it is a chance for our community to access, again as I said, one of our favorite sons," said Tom Hildebrandt, president, Hillside Children’s Foundation.
The day includes a charity luncheon to benefit the Hillside Family of Agencies and Unity Health System at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. A special ceremony will be held prior to the Red Wings game with the Empire State Yankees at Frontier Field.
Tickets for the Hall of Fame Luncheon go on sale Tuesday at 12:00 noon at the Frontier Field box office or by calling (585) 454-1001. Individual tickets are $65. Tables of eight and half tables can be purchased as well. More information, including sponsorship opportunities, can be found by calling (585) 723-7050, emailing foundation@unityhealth.org, or by clicking here.
