Wayne County Sheriff’s office Marine Patrol responded to a report of a boat in distress Saturday night. When they got there, they found a fishing boat moving in a circle.

On the boat, 57-year-old Jacob Gibson had been screaming that his son had fallen overboard and he did not know how to stop or steer the boat.

Patrols learned that the victim, 38-year-old Eric Becoats, had already been saved by a nearby boat who saw him fall off.

Becoats could not swim and was not wearing a life jacket.

He was transported to Newark Wayne Hospital for shock and exhaustion.
