Restaurants and bakeries across the country celebrated National Cheesecake Day.
In Rochester, Cheesy Eddie's on South Avenue honored the day with a cheesecake giveaway.
Cheesy Eddie's has been making the decadent dessert since 1976. The bakery offered up 1,000 free slices of cheesecake Monday in honor of the food holiday.
The family-run bakery says business is good and what better way to celebrate than with the community.
"For a good cheesecake you have to have good ingredients; we do not compromise on how we do it," said John Baker, owner of Cheesy Eddie's. "We bake it in a special water bath and we use high quality butter and we do not use spring form pans, so we use a little different process than most. A batch is typically a 150 pounds and we have four standard sizes we break them up in to and we more than 50 flavors we make in any given month."
Cheesy Eddie's is located at 602 South Avenue in Rochester.
Other restaurants and bakeries also served up cheesecake specials Monday.
