Mayor Declares Heat Emergency Saturday

Mayor Tom Richards announced that a heat emergency will be in effect Saturday, extending the Cool Sweep program.

The heat advisories are in effect until 8 p.m. tonight in Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Monroe, Wayne, Ontario, Seneca, Yates and Livingston counties.

The National Weather service says the heat index values could hit as high as 105 degrees.

People are encouraged to limit their outdoor activities.

The City is extending the Cool Sweep program into branch libraries and recreation centers where residents can stay cool.

The Cool Sweep will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The city spray parks will be open from 10 in the morning until 8 at night.

The Cool Sweep hydrant locations are open from noon until 4.

Cool Sweep takes effect every time temperatures are expected to hit 85 degrees or higher.
