Erie Canal Reopens in Orleans County

A twenty mile section of the Erie Canal in Orleans County re-opened to boaters Thursday.
The section was closed and drained after a large sinkhole developed in a road alongside the canal in Albion last month.
A five-mile portion re-opened last week.
The State Canal Corporation says the sinkhole was caused by leaks in a culvert buried nine feet below the canal.
Crews replaced more than 100 feet of piping and fortified the embankment.
