The Finger Lakes Region of the Red Cross has sent 28 trained volunteers to areas hit by the storm. They departed from Rochester and will first head to Texas and then on to Louisiana to set up staging areas to provide shelter, food and other needed services.
"When you get there, the anxiety level is different every time," said Richard King, Greater Rochester Red Cross. "You can't help but feel overwhelmed especially when you are flying over the area you are overwhelmed by it. What they are going to be doing for the most part is waiting for this storm to move out so they can get into the areas they need to work in."
The American Red Cross says resources are stretched right now, so financial donations to the Red Cross are appreciated. You can donate online or at 1-800 RED CROSS or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
