U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand paid a visit to the University of Rochester's Medical Center Friday morning.
Gillibrand discussed her proposed legislation "The American Innovates Act" which she says will spur the growth of new science and technology jobs in the Rochester region.
While visiting, Joel Seligman, university president, took Gillibrand on a tour of some of the labs in operation.
She met with some of the scientists and researchers, who she said make this area a hotbed for technology.
"A lot of the high tech researchers and developers and companies like to work where other research is being done, so we have a real chance to make this a biotech, high-tech valley. We also excel at energy technology and nanotechnology, and so that's why New York really is the future for high tech in this country. This corridor will be the next Silicon Valley and it's because of our research institutions," said Sen. Gillibrand, (D).
The proposed bill would help researchers and scientist secure resources and training to turn new discoveries into jobs and new high tech companies.
