Looking Back On A Hot, Dry Summer
The summer of 2012 is officially one of the warmest on record, according to the National Weather Service.

The temperature in the Rochester area from May through August averaged 69.1 degrees; 0.3 degrees cooler than the all-time record for those four months, set in 1949.

This summer saw one new daily record high temperature. On July 17th, the temperature was 97 degrees, which was also the warmest day of the summer.

While it's been dry, two daily record rainfall totals were set: 1.21 inches on June 3rd and 1.7 inches on August 5th.

The summer was also the third driest in 142 years.

The summer total, which measures only June, July, and August was impressive but not record setting. The three month total was fifth warmest and 8th driest.

It's important to note that records weren't officially kept until 1871.
