There was a Lot of excitement here at Thornell Road Elementary school this morning as parents dropped students students off and teachers anxiously waited for the buses to bring students in for the first day of school.

Lindsey Michaels, parent, said, "I can’t believe it’s already here, the summer’s just blown by it’s been a beautiful summer and he’s been busy with a lot of activities.”

Fun summer memories were fresh on students minds as they stepped off the bus and into the classroom for the first time this school year.

One student said, "I went to Fantasy Island. I went to Seabreeze, I went to Darien Lake."

Another student replied, "I went to myrtle beach."

But the bags on their backs recently stuffed with new school supplies was a reminder that it's time to get back to the books.

Shamonnie Lee, 5th Grader, said,"folders, notebooks, pencils, calculator, flash drives, headphones, art sketch books."

Evan Michaels, 2nd Grader, said, "we got a bunch of stuff and now my backpacks really heavy."

Roger DeBell, Thornell Road Elementary Principal, said, "It’s always exciting because it’s a fresh start, and as you heard on the announcements this morning, I always challenge the students to look at this as a fresh beginning a chance to really do a great job this year and do their best every day."

And even though this was the first day some fifth graders are already looking forward to what happens on the last.

Ally Rohrer, 5th Grader, said, "Seabreeze at the end of the year."
