A Brighton intersection is closed through Tuesday morning as crews begin transforming it into the state's first "diverging diamond."
The busy interchange of Interstate 590 and Winton Road is closed until 6 a.m. Tuesday, at the latest. Winton is closed between French Road and Cambridge Place.
On and off ramps from 590 will also be closed and detours posted.
During the night, crews are starting new traffic signals, temporary signs, and pavement
markings to create the new pattern, which moves traffic into opposite lanes to prevent
left-hand turns across oncoming traffic.
Construction continues through next month with more closures planned for the next two
weekends.
