A bench trial is underway in the case of a suspended Irondequoit police officer accused of assault.

Prosecutors say Officer Jason Hughes, and his brother James, assaulted a Rochester man in the early morning hours of May 29, 2011 in an East End night club.

Both brothers pleaded not guilty to the charges. The alleged incident was captured on security video and prosecutors say it clearly shows the victim, Guillermo Franco Junior, being assaulted by two men. Those men were later identified as Jason and James Hughes.

James Hughes is still working for the town of Irondequoit's highway department. Jason remains suspended with pay from the police department.

The case could wrap up by the end of the week.
