Family and friends held a vigil to remember the teenager shot and killed early Tuesday morning.
Eighteen-year-old Malcolm McFarland was found dead on Flower Street around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. An officer on patrol in the area heard gun shots and several people called 911. When officers arrived, they found McFarland on the sidewalk.
Relatives say Malcolm was working towards his GED when he was killed.
"People always say that it seems like nobody cares, but every time I hear on the news every other week or whatever about somebody young getting killed, it hits home all the time," said Alonda McFarland, Malcolm's cousin. "But when it hits home, it's more personal, you know what I'm saying, but it's heartfelt to each young person losing their life out here in these streets today and I'm just tired of it."
Police are following up on several leads, but so far, no arrests have been made.

"Since summer, we have had this issue with a lot of firearms in play. It is something that we know we need to address and we need to community's help and support to address this issue," said Chief James Sheppard of the Rochester Police Department. "We are doing proactive things to get the guns off the street, but at the same time I think we need the community and family support to change the culture of violence that we see which numerous verbal disputes end in firearm play."
