RPD Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
The Rochester Police Department is recognizing and honoring Hispanic Heritage Month.
The RPD is focused on community engagement and getting officers more familiar with the residents they protect.
The month-long initiative began with lunch at the Public Safety Building. The community was invited to "Lunch with the Law" and listen to some live music.
"It makes a nice connection because they are able to relate based on that. We have little children here and it is a positive role model for them to see Hispanic police officers. Sometimes, we are able to inspire them on what they want to be when they grow up," said Officer Manny Ortiz of the Rochester Police Department.
Police officers will soon visit School 17 for some salsa dance lessons, and children from School 33 will get a chance to play dominoes with some police officers.
