Seniors at the Episcopal Senior Life Community got a special visit from students from Japan.

It's part of an exchange program through Roberts Wesleyan with students from Osaka Community College in Japan. The students gave a presentation on Japanese culture, featuring an origami demonstration, calligraphy and lessons on how to wear a cotton kimono.

One resident, who served in Japan during World War Two brought his scrapbook to share his stories. Professor Dan Perry from Osaka Community College said the students have been impressed with how friendly the people have been during their trip to the United States.

"They've been impressed by the friendliness of the people, and the openness. In Japan you don't greet people that you don't know, generally," said Perry. "Here, lots of people have come up to us and talked with us on the street, and of course the Roberts people have been very welcoming."

Thirteen students and two faculty members made the trip. They have been staying in a residents hall at Roberts Wesleyan, but will also spend one weekend at the home of a staff or faculty member.
