ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Center for Teen Empowerment unveiled a mural on Monday that was commissioned for the neighborhood around its southwest Rochester location on Genesee Street and Frost Avenue. According to center officials, the mural is meant to inspire hope and pride for the neighborhood for resident teenagers.
The center surveyed nearly 100 area teens for their input on the mural, and on Monday, those ideas were revealed in the finished mural.
"When you walk around the neighborhood, you see a lot of things. You see abandoned houses, you see streets that are dirty. So you want to bring hope to the community, and so that's what we're doing tonight. Hopefully this mural will send a message of hope out," said Shanterra Randle, Center for Teen Empowerment.
The master artist of the mural is Eder Muniz who has murals in Brazil, New York City, and Philadelphia.
