One of the men was arraigned last week in Monroe County Court; both appeared Tuesday in State Supreme Court.

James Hillyard and Miles Mitchell are charged in the shooting death of 27-year-old Joshua Groat on August 25th on Whitney Street. It's alleged the men beat Groat before he was shot.

Both are charged with murder, attempted robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.

Hillyard pleaded not guilty during his arraignment last week; Mitchell entered the same plea today.

"My client's position is he did not commit this offense. I know the RPD were interested in citizens reporting on the offense and a bit concerned here, because anyone can say anything and in criminal justice we need to be able to attest their credibility, so of course the criminal justice process will allow for that,” said Karen Bailey Turner, Mitchell’s attorney.

Both men are being held in the Monroe County Jail on no bail. However, Hillyard will be back in court for a bail hearing on October 2nd.
