Family Displaced by House Fire
One adult and five children are out of their house Thursday morning following a fire in the city.
Firefighters were called to 40 Barons Street around 4:45 a.m. for the report of a fire. Investigators say the fire started on the first floor and extended to the second floor and then to the roof.
The Red Cross is assisting one adult and five children that lived in the home and were able to get out safely.
Firefighters say it took them about a half hour to put out the fire.
David Bagley, Acting Deputy Chief, said, "It was a difficult fire because it was a cape cod style house, and the fire extended up into the ceilings, got into the second floor knee walls...very labor intensive for firefighters to get in there and get the ceilings down and also to open up the knee walls."
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
