The George Eastman House announced the appointment of its new director Thursday.
Dr. Bruce Barnes is the new man in charge of the International Museum of Photography and Film. Barnes was introduced during an afternoon reception on the steps of the George Eastman House.
Barnes is no stranger to Rochester, as he is the former CEO of Element K. Now, as head of the world's oldest photography museum and one of the largest motion picture archives, Barnes says his goal is to better expose the Eastman House internationally.
"Finding more effective ways to reach the global community and to have them understand the quality of what we have and the depth of what we have. The two ways were going to do that is with a more aggressive traveling exhibition program at the very highest quality level, which we're capable of doing, and a comprehensive access online to our photography collection," Barnes said.
Barnes' appointment comes after a year long search to replace Dr. Anthony Bannon, who retired as Eastman House Director in May.
