BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- It is a somber evening on the College of Brockport campus. Faculty and students said they are still in shock. After only a month into the new school year, students are trying to cope with the tragic loss of a fellow student and friend.
As students woke up on Saturday morning, they learned that a fellow student, who lived just down the hall to some, had been killed in her dorm room. It is unknown at this time if anyone witnessed the crime, however, students said they will be keeping their ears open in the future.
According to officials at the College at Brockport, grief counselors are on-hand, and have spoken to many of the students about the incident. The head Resident Assistant at the victim's dormitory said proper protocol was followed when the suspect signed in to meet the victim.
While students said the entire campus is feeling the effects of this tragedy, they also said they feel safe on campus.
Officials at the College at Brockport said many of the students went home for the weekend, but those who stayed behind on campus have come together, collecting flowers and art supplies as they prepare for a vigil on Sunday evening.
