Union Members to Picket Friday at University of Rochester
Close to 2,000 union members with Service Employees International are scheduled to picket the University of Rochester on Friday.
This, after local Chapter 1199 said that labor contract negotiations between service workers and management at the university failed to reach an agreement. Talks broke off Monday afternoon with what the union said was little progress made.
The unions says the protest will start at noon Friday at the U of R Medical Center.
The chapter says the biggest issue remains a management proposal to replace the workers' health benefits fund with what it calls an inferior and more costly health plan for employees.
Both sides are scheduled to meet again on Monday.
