Woman Accused of Hoax Claims She Believed She Had Breast Cancer
The Ontario County woman accused of lying about having breast cancer says she did believe she had the disease. Investigators accused Melissa Jones of making up story to defraud people of money.
She appeared in court Wednesday with her new attorney. In a statement, Jones says she believed she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but that the evaluation was found to be incorrect.
She denies shaving her head, claiming two rounds of chemotherapy caused her hair to fall out. Jones also denies organizing any fundraising efforts for her benefit.
Jones is charged with grand larceny and possession of a forged instrument.
