The Rochester Fire Department says an elderly man is in the hospital in serious condition after he was pulled from his burning home early Monday morning.

It happened at 67 Wilkins Street around 1:15 a.m. Monday. The Fire Department says the call to 911 reported a house fire with people trapped.

When firefighters arrived and went inside, they found an 85-year-old man unconscious upstairs. He was lying on the floor, just outside the room where the fire is believed to have started on the second floor.

Firefighters say the man likely suffered smoke inhalation.

The other resident exited the home safely before fire crews arrived.

One firefighter hurt his shoulder while putting up a ladder.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause.
