A former Monroe County employee pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges of illegally obtaining unemployment benefits.
William Reilich Jr., the son of Monroe County GOP chair Bill Reilich, was facing charges of grand larceny, falsifying business records and offering a false instrument.
The DA's office and Reilich agreed to a plea deal. Reilich pleaded guilty to offering a false instrument. He admitted he illegally claimed more than $7,000 in unemployment benefits from June 2009 until January 2010, even though he had a job.
In court he told the judge, "I'm sorry I made a mistake, I will never be back here again."
His attorney said his client has paid all the money back. He is also in treatment for a gambling addiction.
Reilich was sentenced to 12 consecutive Saturdays in the Monroe County Jail.
