A New York Times article, about growing distrust between American and Afghan forces, also details the death of a local soldier.
Sgt. First Class Daniel Metcalfe who once lived in Penfield, was killed in Afghanistan September 29.
According to the article, an Afghan soldier at the same checkpoint as the U.S. troops, opened fire killing Metcalfe. Nearby American soldiers returned fire and killed the Afghan man.
The article says the U.S. soldiers thought they were being set up and ambushed.
