Lockdown at Five Points Correctional Facility in Seneca County
Inmates at the Five Points Correctional Facility are under lockdown because of an assault that occurred in the prison's yard Sunday night.
According to the Department of Corrections, corrections officers were attempting to break up a small group of inmates that were assaulting another inmate when they began to attack the officers, forcing corrections officers to use chemical agents to break up the fight. Officers were then able to take control of the yard.
Two of the officers involved were taken to an area hospital to be treated for their injuries. Eight inmates were transferred to Southport and Elmira Correctional facilities.
The DOC says the lockdown is expected to last five days while the prison staff investigates the incident.
