Rochester Celebrates Sister Cities Program
Mayor Tom Richards welcomed and expressed his appreciation to 125 volunteers involved with the International Sister Cities of Rochester Program during its annual reception Tuesday.
Rochester was one of the first American cities to develop closer ties with its international counterparts by signing the initial Sister City agreement with Rennes, France in 1958.
Agreements are now in place with a total of 12 cities throughout the world.
Michael Leach, International Programs Liason, said, "today we had 70 students from Rennes, France, plus some of their host students from Newark High School to tour City Hall."
There are nearly 600 U.S. cities currently participating in the program with more than 2,000 sister city relationships worldwide.
