Nearly 200 women met at the Jewish Community Center Thursday to bake challah bread and partake in a prayer experience.

The idea for the event, Loaves of Love, was developed as a way to support family and friends who were battling cancer. Women who attended the event gathered for a "prayer experience" to pray for those who are affected by illness.

"The program is designed to reach everyone, so for those whom this is tradition every Friday, it's something new. For those not, this is a reconnection," said Joy Getnick, Jewish Program Director. "And this is something you can do with your family, maybe not every week if that doesn't work for you, but sometimes, with your daughter, with your mother."

Challah is a traditional Jewish bread. The women baked two loaves each. One for themselves and one to give to someone who needs "a little extra love."
