Family of Brighton Crash Victim Releases Statement
The family of a Brighton student injured in a crash earlier this month released a statement saying he has a long road to recovery ahead.

Scott Collins, Christa Mickol and Kevin Thapa were hurt when the car they were riding in rear-ended a school bus on Warren Avenue on October 9th. The driver, 16-year-old John Zakhary, was charged with Reckless Driving, a misdemeanor and other traffic violations.

Scott Collins suffered the most serious injuries.

His family released this statement:

"Scott Collins sustained significant injuries in a motor vehicle accident on October 9, 2012. He continues to receive medical care at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Scott is breathing on his own but is in need of continued treatment. Scott will be undergoing acute intensive therapy at a specialized facility. He is at the beginning of what will be a long road to recovery.

The family requests respect for their privacy during this difficult time. Their sole focus is on Scott's treatment and recovery. All media inquiries for the family and school should be directed to Jill Vigdor, Communications Coordinator, Brighton Central Schools.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for the incredible warmth, kindness and support demonstrated by the Brighton school community. Each and every card and well wish is both shared and appreciated."
