Airlines cancelled thousands of flights up and down the East Coast because of Hurricane Sandy. Carriers cancelled more than 7,000 flights to and from dozens of airports.

Flight disruptions are affecting travelers in cities as far away as Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

When major hubs close, air travel is impacted everywhere including here in Rochester.
The only flights in and out of ROC, are to cities to the west including Chicago, Detroit and south to Atlanta.

"This is about as quiet as it has ever been, I mean usually this line is way out to there. It is quite a difference," said Jim Shaw of Victor.

"I'm hoping I'm just getting out in the nick of time," said Kitty Summers of Greece. "Hopefully it wont be as bad as everybody says and my friends and family don't loose power."

"We are praying that everything works out for all the people up here. Our kids, our grandkids will all be in our thoughts and hopefully you guys will be able weather the storm and get through it okay," said Daria Shaw of Victor.

Airlines are hoping to resume flights late Tuesday. Travelers are encouraged to check flight schedules on airline websites before heading out.

"I'm hoping I'm just getting out in the nick of time," said Kitty Summers of Greece. "Hopefully it wont be as bad as everybody says and my friends and family don't loose power."
