Residents Along Edgemere in Greece Start Cleaning Up

Some residents who live along Lake Ontario decided to tough out the storm at home. Tuesday the cleanup began.
"It was just howling. The siding was whistling and you hear things outside breaking," said Charlie Tijou of Greece.
That is how Charlie describes the sounds he heard overnight as Sandy made its way on shore. He said when he and his wife Donna woke up, "I sort of looked around and couldn't believe it."
The Tijous live on Edgemere Drive in Greece and despite the county's evacuation orders, they chose to stay in their house. The garage window was broken in the storm, some siding is loose and the road in front of their home looks a lot like their beachy backyard.
"Everybody was calling and texting," said Donna. "All of our kids were telling us to come to their house, but at that point it could've been more dangerous to get out and get into the car."
State and county officials spent Tuesday going around the county evaluating all the damage left behind. County Executive Maggie Brooks and a small part of her team went to look firsthand at that damage in Charlotte and Greece.
The Tijous say they have insurance and were taking pictures Tuesday to send to their agents. Now, Charlie said, all that is left to do is "recover and get going".
