It was a special homecoming Tuesday for a local soldier serving in Kuwait.

Zachary Gizzi, 24, arrived home to warm hugs and cheers from his family and friends. Gizzi says serving overseas has been hectic. When they arrived in Kuwait, he says his platoon had to undergo more training and preparations to be ready at a moments notice.

Gizzi's family says they've been in constant communication with him and were comforted to know he wasn't in harms way. Gizzi arrived home on election day, but didn't realize it as he had already cast his ballot weeks before.

Gizzi is excited to be home and his family says they are anxiously awaiting another special moment next week when Zach's brother Cory arrives home.

Gizzi said, "He's a couple years younger then me. He's a specialist as well, unfortunately he hurt his knee so that's why he's coming home, doctor's say he will be just fine. He joined right out of high school and then convinced me to join a couple years later. Not something they planned, but one he's very proud of."

Gizzi is one of several soldiers who arrived home Tuesday from Kuwait. Zach's brother Cory will be home permanently due to his injury while serving in Afghanistan.
